Melbourne capital of Victoria
Melbourne is the capital of Victoria, and the great rival city to Sydney. It was founded in on land acquired from the Aboriginal people by a land speculator. Today it has a population of 3.2 million people and is Australias second largest city behind Sydney. It hosted the 1956 Olympics. Melbourne may not be as visually spectacular as Sydney, but it continues to lay legitimate claim to being the fashion, food, cultural and financial centre of Australia.
