PANORAMIC VIEW - CHINATOWN BACKLANE MARKET,KUALA LUMPUR This panorama shot was taken at 1pm on the 18th Oct 2000 in the old "backlane" market within the hidden bowels of Kuala Lumpur Chinatown, near the famous Petaling Street. The market site reuses the narrow rear back lanes behind old prewar Chinese [see related product] shophouses, with just simple roofing to keep the rain away. You can just about feel the life ambience oozing from the place. There's all the fresh livestocks and produce (chicken, pork, and fish) lying around counter tops to be sold to shoppers. Butchers are pounding with cleavers on heavy chopping blocks. There's a butcher, with his shirt off, having a sip of Coca Cola (or was it Pepsi ?). There's the seasoned shoppers eagled eyed in knowing what is the best deals around. And there's some perplexed onlookers wondering what the photographer was doing spinning around in 360 degrees fashion (tell me, how do one do a panaromic shot without spinning like a slow top?). The modern supermarkets just do not have the ambience...Long live the old markets! [ Please wait for Java applets and image to load. Click with left mouse button to stop.
