

In the state of Victoria, the mountain ranges of the Grampians National Park rise abruptly to dominate the surrounding plains. These craggy mountains, named after the Scottish Grampians (its rightful Aboriginal name is �Gariwerd�), are a series of rocky ranges thrown up by the folding of sandstone mass into an uncommon cuesta formation � spectacular escarpments on the east side and gentle slopes to the west. Erosion has shaped bizarre rock sculptures such as the huge overhanging rocks of the Jaws of Death (shown) to entertain the not so faint-hearted.
