Ned Kelly was Australia's equivalent to America's Jesse James the western outlaw and England's Dick Turpin the Highwayman. He was a notorious 19th century "bushranger" who roamed "Ned Kelly country" in the north-eastern portion of Victoria. Here, in the town of Glenrowan, was where he had his legendary final gun battle with the police in 1880...clad in a suit of home-made armour. The police finally stopped him when they shot him in the legs... You can see a giant statue of a shotgun brandishing Ned Kelly in his armour in this panorama.
