The picturesque Kota Bahru Market

PANORAMIC VIEW - THE FAMOUS KOTA BAHRU MARKET This panorama shot was taken at 8am in the morning on the 27th July 2000 at the Kota Bahru wet central market in the state of Kelantan. (Note: wet means that the floor is really dripping wet with melted ice and water). Traders are busy preparing to layout local food produce to be sold. Traders are usually Kelantanese women folk who I can attest to are businesspersons par excellence! Women traders will sit in their colorful headscarfs (called "tudung") and traditional "baju kurung" dresses. Bargaining for reduced prices ia a load of fun and challenge. Upstairs in the market is a shopping haven for local arts and crafts.[see example products] The meat section (pork is not sold as this is strictly a Muslim market) is along one of the corridors while fisheries are sold outside in the open compound of the market.
