Dingoes - The Aussie Wild Dog
Dingoes are also known as the Warrigal is a wild dog found on the Australian mainland (excludes Tasmania). It is a member of the canine family, either yellow or reddish brown in color with characteristic large pointed ears and white tipped bushy tails. Unlike their other canine cousins, dingoes do not bark but howls. It usually hunts in packs and preys on kangaroos, wallabies and rabbits. Farmers consider dingoes to be pests since large numbers of sheep and calves are taken annually by dingoes.
The infamous dingo made headlines at the end of the 1970s in Azaria Chamberlain case where a dingo was claimed to have taken Azaria from her tent in central Australia.
