The town of Alice Springs - or "The Alice" - is approximately at the dead centre of the continent of Australia. It is an incongruous outpost in the Outback Red Centre, and represents the greatest population concentration for 1,500 km (900 miles) in any direction ! Its present population is 27,000...one-tenth which is aboriginal. This panorama was taken at the top of Anzac Hill. For the eagle-eyed, you may see the famous silver-colored "The Ghan" luxury train ( below the table-topped mountain) making her trip back from Alice Springs to Adelaide 1600km (1000 miles) away.
