This figurine representing a Goanna lizard are carved from sections of root from the river red gum trees and occasionally from mulga wood. They are stylized representations of local Australian wildlife and are decorated with either the natural markings of the animal or traditional design work. The carvings vary in size and are made using the most basic hand tools, the only contemporary adaptation has been the use of lengths of wire to burn on the intricate designs. Crafted by Aboriginal woman from the Central and Western desert areas of Australia.
