It is relaxing to swim on Mindil Beach, when it is off-season for the highly dangerous box jellyfish. If you do not want to swim, then go shopping for arts and crafts at the Beach Market. Mindil Beach is also the scene of a sunset market every Thursday evenings, which has become one of Darwin’s most popular events. The Asian food stalls alone are marvelous.

Mindil Beach is also the place where Darwin holds its fun activities. There is the Variety Club Bash. Then there's the famous Beer Can Regatta. Thousands of beer cans are used to construct a fleet of wildly imaginative, semi-seaworthy boat crafts that tries to keep afloat off Mindil Beach. The whole of Darwin turns out to watch them race or wallow in the bay. This event is in keeping with Darwin as one of the beer-drinking capital of the world!
