The Aussie meat pie is another famous icon together with having a beer while indulging in watching the footy (Aussie Rules Football). Australians are reputed to be the world’s largest consumer of meat pies per capita, with each person on average consuming over 12 meat pies and a further 17 combined pastries, sausage rolls, and party pies per annum.
The most popular meat pie is made by Four ‘N’ Twenty which was first baked in 1947 by Mr McClure in the Victorian town of Bendigo. In 1948 at the Royal Melbourne Show, the Four ‘N’ Twenty pie became a hit and this began its long journey to success.
Its factory in a Melbourne suburb called Kensington, is claimed to be one of the largest pie factory plants in the world capable of producing more than 50,000 pies per hour.
